K-12 School Health Aide

 

 

Description:

The K-12 School Health Aide will strengthen and support the educational process by improving and maintaining the health and well-being of K-12 students. They act as a collaborative partner with educators regarding student health concerns and any necessary accommodation. This position maintains positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, peers, and community members and provides the best possible opportunities for student development and growth, both educationally and personally.

 

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to: K-12 Compliance and Academic Support Services Principal and K-12 Nurse Consultant 

Direct Reports: This is a non-supervisory role.

 

Compensation:

This is a full-time, 10-month position. The pay range is $15.24 - $22.86 per hour, and it's dependent on experience. A detailed outline of benefits and additional compensation is provided at the bottom of the job description.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Provides basic health care and first aid to students; acts as a first responder in medical situations
  • Contacts parents of ill or injured students in accordance with established health policies and if necessary, prepare students to go home
  • Contacts parents of students with multiple visits informing them of frequency and reasons for visits
  • Follows up on all Incident Reports with parents of student to check progress, health of child
  • Contacts the School Nurse in case of major illness or serious injury, hospitalizations, communicable diseases, repeated absences and repeated office visits
  • Contacts parents as necessary in relation to communicable diseases on campus.
  • Enters medical information, all health office visits, and subsequent care into appropriate database according to school policies and State of Colorado standards                               
  • Supports School Nurse with maintenance of student immunization records in the database, including exemptions and reasons for exemptions; contact parents regarding missing student information
  • Maintains and stores student prescription medications and appropriate paperwork
  • Completes incident reports when needed
  • Keeps supply of clean clothing of different sizes for student use (mud, wet clothes)
  • Routinely checks emergency supplies in classroom kits, restocking as needed
  • Acts as a mandatory reporter under mandatory reporting law

Additionally:

  • Be present and engage in Pinnacle functions and organizations to build strong relationships with students, parents, peers, and the community.
  • Maintain and deepen current educational learning on an ongoing basis.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

General Abilities, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Skills:

  • No prior experience required 
  • Willingness to be trained on CPR, First Aid, & AED Certified                
  • Health/medical field experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality                                            
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to quickly assess student need and prioritize students needing aid
  • Knowledgeable of pediatric health. 
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate while appreciating the diverse background of students, parents, peers, and the community.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

Working Conditions:

Exposure/Noise Level: Occasional exposure to airborne particles, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions.  Normal school environment with moderate to high noise level.

Mental Functions: Analyze, collaboration, communicate, compare, compilation of data, compute, coordinate, copy, direct, evaluate, instruct, interpersonal skills, present, report, synthesize.

Physical Activities: Office environment including computer interface. Bend, reach, sit, stand, stoop, talk, walk, and heavy person-to-person interaction with students, parents, peers, and community members.

Weight and Force Demands: Moderate physical activity (lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 25 pounds).

Other: May be required to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work related functions.

Note: In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, during the 2020-2021 school year, school staff are critical employees and are expected to perform work on campus as required.
