High School Assistant Cross Country Coach 

 

The High School Assistant Cross Country Coach is responsible for instructing student-athletes in the fundamental physical training, skills, and strategy necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student-athlete shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of acceptable moral values and social behavior, pride in accomplishment, self-confidence, and self-discipline. This position maintains positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, peers, and community members and provides the best possible opportunities for student development and growth, both educationally and personally.

 

 

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to: Athletic Director and High School Head Cross Country Coach 

Direct Reports: Volunteer Coaches

 

 

Compensation:

This is a part-time, seasonal, stipend-paid position. The stipend range is $2,200-$3,000 per season and is dependent upon experience and qualifications.

 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to assist in the development and organization of the high school cross-country program.
  • Attend all Athletic Director meetings.
  • Be present and engage in Pinnacle functions and organizations to build strong relationships with athletes, parents, families, peers, and the community.
  • Build, form, and improve relationships with other athletes, coaches, teachers, and administrators with PCS and other districts/schools.
  • Coach, evaluate, provide feedback to, and support high school athletes.
  • Collaborate with community members on partnerships to support athletic programs.
  • Communicate and foster positive relationships with athletes, parents, and families.
  • Assist with athlete and parent meetings with clear, concise, and documented expectations.
  • Assist with the cultivation and execution of procedures for ensuring open communication with athletes and parents.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individual/team training plans by the day, week, month, and year as appropriate.
  • Encourage and teach integrity, leadership, sportsmanship, and team-building.
  • Establish direction and expectations for all athlete participants.
  • Maintain professional behavior at all times.
  • Monitor athlete academic status, attendance, and behavior.
  • Recruit athletes through positive interactions while building the program.
  • Responsible for acquisition, distribution, maintenance, and repair of equipment and uniforms.
  • Responsible for supervision of games, locker rooms, practices, team trips, etc.
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of cross country and a willingness to examine new procedures and theories.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

 

General Abilities, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Skills:

  • Previous coaching, sports participation, or teaching experience.
  • Ability to use approved first-aid and CPR skills.
  • Adhere to, be responsible for, enforce, implement, and understand athletic, school, district policies along with CHSAA By-Laws.
  • CPR & AED Certification are required prior to the start of season.
  • Possess or has the ability to acquire a valid Colorado Coaching Certificate prior to start of season.
  • Successfully pass the CHSAA Coaches Test, acquire CHSSA coaching registration and complete a concussion course per State Legislation and CHSAA By-Laws prior to start of season.
  • Understand the signs and symptoms of concussions and remove players that are exhibiting signs and symptoms of concussions.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate while appreciating the diverse background of students, parents, peers, and the community.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

Working Conditions:

Exposure/Noise Level: Occasional exposure to airborne particles, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions.  Normal school environment with moderate to high noise level.

Mental Functions: Analyze, collaboration, communicate, compare, compilation of data, compute, coordinate, copy, direct, evaluate, instruct, interpersonal skills, present, report, synthesize.

Physical Activities: Outdoor environment. Bend, reach, sit, stand, stoop, talk, walk, and heavy person-to-person interaction with athletes, students, parents, families, peers, and community members.

Weight and Force Demands: Moderate to heavy physical activity (lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 75 pounds of items in varying shapes/sizes).

Other: May be required to work outside of normal working hours and travel for athletic related functions.
