Description:

The Lead Custodian is a highly-skilled, motivated team member who is fluent in both English and Spanish who plays a pivotal role in maintaining a clean and safe environment.  This position provides leadership to the custodial team, ensuring efficient operations. The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership skills, be proficient in custodial tasks, be a self-starter who is able to work both independently and collaboratively, and be capable of effective communication in both English and Spanish. The regular work schedule for this position is 8 hours each day starting in the early afternoon and into the evening to be able to support the evening team members. 

 

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to: Custodial Manager

Direct Reports: This is a non-supervisory position.

 

Compensation:

This is a full-time, 12-month position. The hourly pay range is $22.50 - $33.00/hour, dependent upon education, certifications, and experience. Additional benefits are outlined in more detail at the bottom of the job description.

 

Essential Functions:

Custodial Leadership:

  • Providing guidance and support to the custodial team, including supporting the Custodial Manager with training for new team members.
  • Ensure custodial personnel use equipment, materials, cleaning solutions, and supplies in a safe and economical manner.
  • Provide direction and coordinate the work of the custodial team; support with scheduling in the absence of the Custodial Manager.
  • Inspect the buildings and overall campus to identify custodial needs as well as to review and inspect custodial work and projects.
  • Provide feedback on team culture, dynamics, and performance to the Custodial Manager.

Custodial Tasks:

  • Perform routine and specialized custodial tasks, including cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining designated areas, moving furniture, hanging fixtures, etc.
  • Operate custodial equipment and machinery efficiently and safely.
  • Oversee the proper disposal of waste and recycling materials.

Inventory Management:

  • Manage and maintain custodial supplies inventory.
  • Order supplies as needed and ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
  • Implement cost-effective strategies for supply procurement.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Conduct regular inspections of custodial equipment and machinery.
  • Ensure all equipment is operated in compliance with safety standards.
  • Report any equipment needs or repairs to the Custodial Manager.

Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with custodial staff, management, and other departments.
  • Provide clear instructions and updates in both English and Spanish.
  • Report any custodial issues to the Custodial Manager promptly.

 

Additionally:

  • Be present and engage in Pinnacle functions and organizations to build strong relationships with students, parents, peers, and the community.
  • Continue professional development on an ongoing basis.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

General Abilities, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Skills:

  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
  • Ability to work evenings is required.
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated experience in custodial tasks, including cleaning and maintenance
  • Familiarity with the operation of custodial equipment and machinery
  • Must have basic computer skills; experience with the Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, finance and inventory software, etc. preferred.
  • Efficient time management to meet deadlines and maintain schedules
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate while appreciating the diverse backgrounds of students, parents, peers, and the community
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator

Working Conditions:

Exposure/Noise Level: Occasional exposure to airborne particles, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions.  Normal school/office environment with moderate to high noise level.

Mental Functions: Analyze, collaborate, communicate, compare, compile data, compute, coordinate, copy, direct, evaluate, guide, interpersonal skills, present, report, synthesize.

Physical Activities: Office environment including computer interface. Bend, reach, sit, stand, stoop, talk, walk, and heavy person-to-person interaction with staff and community members.

Weight and Force Demands: Moderate physical activity (lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 35 pounds).

Other: May be required to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work-related functions.
